Randy Olmstead is the founder and President of Mid-Con Energy and RDT Properties, Inc. Mr. Olmstead, upon graduating from the University of Oklahoma and completion of three years service in the US Navy, began his energy career in Tulsa, Oklahoma as an oil & gas tax consultant with Touche Ross & Co., earning his CPA in 1978. Mr. Olmstead worked as the general manager for LB Jackson Company and LB Jackson Drilling Company before forming R.D.T. Properties in 1981, to pursue oil and gas drilling opportunities. Recognizing a market need for the development of enhanced oil recovery for mature producing fields, Mr. Olmstead formed Mid-Con Energy Corporation in 2004. He brought together an experienced team of engineers, geologists, land and operations personnel to specialize in the developing new waterflood and tertiary EOR projects. Mr. Olmstead is a member of the Oklahoma Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs, Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association, IPAA, Tulsa Association Petroleum Landmen and has served on the Oklahoma Corporation Commission's Industry Advisory Committee since 2005.
Robbin Jones is the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Mid-Con Energy Group. He joined the company in March 2005. Mr. Jones has over 28 years experience in the petroleum industry, 23 years with independent E&P companies (Enserch Exploration, 1982-85; Caruthers Producing, 1985-89; Diamond Energy, 1989; Equinox Oil, 1989-99), and 5 years with Schlumberger (1999-2005). Mr. Jones has worked in the Ark-La-Tex region, Black Warrior Basin, Gulf Coast, Illinois Basin, and Midcontinent region, focusing on acquisitions, divestments, drilling, production and reservoir engineering with a concentration on the identification, acquisition and development of fields having waterflood/unitization potential. Mr. Jones was the Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, and served on the Board of Directors for the SPE Gulf Coast Section from 2002-2005, and has served as a member of the IPAA Midcontinent Business Development Committee for the last three years.
Rex McPhail is the Vice President & General Counsel. He joined Mid-Con Energy in 2004. He has over 25 years of experience as an energy lawyer and more recently as a petroleum engineer. Mr. McPhail started in the industry as an administrative law judge with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. He joined Occidental Petroleum’s legal department in 1988, where he specialized in domestic E&P law as well as international oil and gas transactions. Mr. McPhail has several years of experience in private practice, has been part of the management team of several start-up oil and gas companies, and is a licensed patent attorney. In 2005, Mr. McPhail obtained a masters degree in Petroleum Engineering, with an emphasis on reservoir simulation, and is a member of Mid-Con’s reservoir engineering group, with a focus on waterflooding. He is a member of SPE, the Oklahoma Bar Association, TAPL and the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association. Mr. McPhail is currently admitted to practice in front of the Oklahoma Supreme Court, US District Courts for the Northern and Western Districts of Oklahoma, and the US Patent & Trademark Office.
Larry Morphew is the Vice President of Production and has been with Mid-Con since it was formed in 2004 and RDT Properties since 1986. He has worked in the industry for over 29 years, and has focused on waterfloods since 1985, when he began working the Cleveland field for ARCO. Mr. Morphew supervises a staff of 29, including 2 petroleum engineers, 11 field staff, and 16 contract pumpers, as well as overseeing all contracts and purchasing for RDT’s operations with an annual budget over $20 million. Mr. Morphew attended Oklahoma State University and is a member of the Northeastern Oklahoma American Petroleum Institute.
Jim McGhay is the Chief Geologist and Vice President of Exploitation for Mid-Con Energy, which he helped establish in 2004. Mr. McGhay has over 35 years of petroleum industry experience, both with privately-owned independent E&P companies operating in the greater midcontinent and eastern rocky mountain regions (Diamond Energy, 1987-1997; Petromark Resources, 1983-1986, and Gungoll Associates, 1973-1977) and as an independent geologist and consultant (Geo-Logic Consultants, 1977-1983 and Geo Logic Concepts, 1997-2004). He is experienced in prospect generation, exploration and development evaluations, production acquisition, drilling operations, regional play concepts including coalbed methane and oil shales, secondary recovery projects and associated regulatory commission matters. In his 37 years as a member of the AAPG, Mr. McGhay has served on various committees and in various leadership positions. Mr. McGhay is the director of the Energy Libraries Online initiative in Oklahoma and a member of geological societies and associations in five states.
Rhonda Stacy is the Vice President of Land and has worked for Mid-Con Energy since 2005. Mrs. Stacy has over 25 years of experience in the petroleum industry including working in oil and gas accounting, lease records, and division orders before joining Mid-Con Energy’s land department. Her expertise in division order analysis has improved Mid-Con’s ability to streamline the complicated process of unitization, and to determine title and ownership within the substantial unit spacing. Mrs. Stacy is currently a member of the Tulsa Association of Petroleum Landmen.
David Culbertson is the Controller at Mid-Con Energy, and has been with the company since June of 2006. He has 20 years of experience in oil & gas accounting, and has worked for some of the industry’s well-respected companies, including Samson Resources (1989-1999), Williams Production Co (1999-2003), and Vintage Petroleum (2003-2006). He has recently overseen the selection and implementation of a new oil and gas accounting, production, and land integrated software for Mid-Con Energy. Mr. Culbertson holds a MBA from Oklahoma State University and is a Certified Professional Accountant.
